Since nothing I could ever think of or write about today would ever match the awesomeness of Tuesday’s Daily Show skit. I thought we’d have ourselves a little poll.
It’s John King vs. John King!
Pick your favorite pic!

Watch… just watch. And smile. All day. Deep, deep smile.
“Before you kill me John King, I just have a couple of questions.” Those are so TOTALLY going to be my last words on earth.

Happy Tuesday Cyberworld! I’d like to start by saying that I think we’ve gotten a little off track here at Johnthenewsking, we’ve lost a little of our focus. I would like to try and rectify that right now:
Ah, isn’t that better? You know, we (and by we, I mean, me) at JTNK try to be mature and respectful in regards to Mr. King. And while he is most certainly a first-class journalist, sometimes you just gotta say “Damn, you are hottie!” Handsome, handsome man…
Okay, I’m better now. Forgive me. Anyway, I started working on this post at about 10 this morning. I thought I’d rummage around Google for a few JK tidbits I might have missed in the last few months. Well, that was THREE FREAKIN’ HOURS AGO! I can’t keep anything I just read straight, and I’m in desperate need of a nap. Here are three things I linked before my eyes started to cross:
1. I don’t spend a great deal of time on tvguide.com (no time at all really- didn’t TV Guide jump the shark in about 1992?) but apparently I should have been ’cause you can keep track of JK’s TV schedule: TV Guide
2. From TV Week. I just came across a guest commentary that JK wrote (in April!, where have I been!?) about people’s reaction to the Magic Wall: A Little Bit of Magic Brings the Election Home It’s kind of sweet.
3. I found this to be hilarious, I don’t know why. The Magic Wall has it’s own Wikipedia page! Multi-Touch Collaboration Wall
Apparently you can order one from the Neiman Marcus catalogue! You know, Christmas is coming up… If you don’t know what to get your favorite JK blogger… just sayin’… It would look nice in my living room…
Speaking of looking nice in my living room… Sorry, got off track there.
I should actually do some work since I haven’t done a darn thing other than play on the Internet since I got here. I will leave you with (trumpets sound)

…to bring you a Rory Stewart themed post. Please pardon the delay in JK related infotainment. John King blogging will resume later in the week. But for now, sit back and enjoy one of Scotland’s gifts to humanity; along with kilts, Scotch and Billy Connolly: Rory Stewart.
I am not going to go into an explanation of who he is simply because I could not come close to doing his life justice. However, the following links are articles that will give you a good primer.
Moving on now to a few articles written by Rory Stewart:
How to Save Afghanistan– this one caused a stir.
And now the YouTube offerings:
Charlie Rose Tomorrow
This was a MWNGIYV (Mebz’s Weekly No-Good Irrelevant YouTube Video) a few months ago.
Inside Story- Rebuilding Kabul pt.1 & pt. 2
Authors @ Google
His books can be found here at Amazon. Both of my copies of The Places in Between and The Prince of the Marshes are worn, stained and dog-eared. They are well worth the money and should be required reading for anyone trying to understand our attempts (and failures) at state-building.
Why have I taken the time to put this together? I’ll tell you, it’s because when I hear Rory speak about the issues the world faces today, I am comforted by the knowledge that there are in fact smart people out there working very hard to fix our problems and make the world just a little bit better. Mr. Stewart’s honest and frank assessment of our abilities and limitations is a welcomed voice on the world stage. For those of you who are already Rory Stewart fans, I’m sure this is all old stuff to you, but if you are new, by all means check him out. And after reading this, if you are thinking that his story would make a good movie- you would be right.
Alright, this is turning into far too long a post and I haven’t even said anything about Turquoise Mountain or Harvard or the fact that he’s only 35- ahh! There is simply too much Rory-awesomeness to fit into one post. Sorry, if it wasn’t overtly funny, either. I will try better next time. And I promise more JK fun soon. Later.

Let’s start our week off with a little comic funny that I found at mattbors.com:
I have lacked noting that JK’s CNN profile picture has been updated.
Very nice, although I’ve got to admit that I kinda miss the pink tie.
A few found on McCainBlogette.com from the New Hampshire primary in January.(Disclaimer: DO NOT take this as some sort of pro-McCain message. They were just some cute pictures. And please do not turn the comments section into a stump speech for/against either candidate. While I might not be in”real life”, here in the public blogosphere, we at JohnthenewsKing are non-partisan. I mean it- I don’t want to hear it. I’ve got my finger on the comments’ delete button. I’ll use it. You will make Mebz angry. And be warned, you won’t like Mebz when she’s angry.)
On with the eye candy:
The envy is strong with that last one, dear readers.
It has been a long time, and I’m sure you guys have missed the famous

I have come to the simple, yet disheartening conclusion, that the British are just funnier than us. Simon Amstell being a prime example. I’s loves me some Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

Hello All! How was everyone’s weekend? Apparently it’s Columbus Day, which I was completely unaware of until an hour ago. Its also the 50th birthday of Paddington Bear. And for you X-files fans, it’s also Fox Mulder’s birthday. You can’t say that JohnthenewsKing isn’t educational.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram compiled a list of “Power Pundits.” While I take slight issue with the term pundit (he’s a reporter– dammit!) here’s what they had to say regarding the King of the Magic Map:
John King, CNN — Billed as the network’s chief national correspondent, he’s best known to viewers as one thing: the Wizard of Aahs who controls the Magic Wall. His state-of-the art, interactive national election map — technically called the Multi-Touch Collaboration Wall — is a mesmerizing piece of technology that sometimes seems to send King into a state of hypnotic, electoral bliss.
I’d like to note that technology is only as good as the person running it. The Magic Wall is cool and all, but JK has to KNOW his stuff, or else he would just be playing with a map. Moving on-
The AC360 blog this morning says:
John King will report from battleground state of Missouri, and explore the race issue from the inner city perspective. We have brought up the issue of how some whites may or may not vote for Obama (otherwise known as the Bradley effect) but tonight John will look more closely at the hope and anticipation in black communities at the prospect of Obama as President.
BATTLEGROUND STATE OF MISSOURI!?!?! Gee, who else do I know in Missouri, oh wait- IT’S ME!! Thanks a lot, 360 Blog for not giving me a city! Not that I’d probably go there anyway… I admire from afar… But if he happens to be in my home town… not very likely… rural Mid-Mo is hardly “inter city”… maybe I could… what if… Nah, not going to happen. Drats!
Here’s a video from this weekend’s election special America Votes 2008.
Pretty random post today. What can I say, it’s Monday. Later!

It’s May already! Holy Smokes this year is going by fast. I’m going to wake up next week and be 45 at this rate. Anyway, you didn’t come here to witness my premature mid-life crisis.
Warning- Gratuatious JK Picture:
Yesterday, Millie said some very kind things regarding my ability to find things. You are too sweet, girl! So, now the pressure is on for more tidbits.
There is a new article about JK and the Magic Wall, (hint: the title of today’s post is a direct quote from John.) If you care to read more about the wonder that is the Magic Wall, go here.
Time magazine has a short piece that John wrote about the inventor of the Magic Wall: here.
Also, ESPN interviewed Wolf Blitzer, who gave us this wonderful idea:If you, Lou Dobbs, John King, Anderson Cooper, and Candy Crowley are playing basketball, who’s slotted 1-5 and why? Anderson’s gotta be a guard. I gotta be a guard. Candy and John forwards. Lou Dobbs at the center position. Any logic to that? It’s basically completely random (laughs). We’re filling out a roster and seeing what works.
Well, any sports related John reference leads my mind to this picture:
It’s not basketball, but who cares.

Occasionally I do watch other channels than CNN. One of the lucky few happens to be BBC America, which has just started showing the second season of Robin Hood. Words can not describe how much I love this show. So, I thought I would use my voice to the world to spread the word. Consider it my version of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor.
